Gully rap came out of Dharavi and Kurla — DIVINE and Naezy rapping in Hindi and Mumbai street slang about the chawls they lived in. A Bollywood film built on their story turned it national in 2019, and Indian rap is now a mainstream commercial genre in several languages at once.
